>Siemens Mobility Inc.
Biography: Kevin McClain is the Director of Mechanical System Engineering with Siemens Mobility Inc. In this role, he is responsible for the mechanical system engineering and integration of major system components, structural and kinematic vehicle architecture, carbody and articulation design, carbody to truck to infrastructure integration, as well as structural and dynamic testing. All for Light and Heavy rail vehicle development in North America.
Kevin began his career in rail transportation in 2010 when joining Siemens. Responsibilities have ranged from truck system engineering, vehicle dynamic simulations, load assumptions, vehicle dynamic and structural testing, structural component and carbody design by finite element, weld optimization research, fatigue methods, material selections, and engineering leadership. During his tenure he has been instrumental in over 50 vehicle developments successfully delivered throughout North America. Projects range from ultra-light weight LRVs, first to market LRVs with extended OESS battery storage, to passenger coaches and locomotives.
Kevin holds a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Sacramento where he focused on design and manufacturing with an emphasis on vibration analysis. Since 2010, he has been Adjunct Faculty hosting undergraduate and graduate level courses in mechanical design, manufacturing, control systems, finite elements analysis, and multi-body dynamics.
Kevin is dedicated to evolving the rail industry by continued research and vehicle development. He is currently working on his PhD at University of California, Davis with research in structural performance and residual strain related to complex geometric weldments.
