Biography: Yan Liu is Principal Researcher at the National Research Council of Canada. Yann joined the NRC in 1997 working in railcar strength integrity, and later focusing on modeling, simulation and data analytics of train-track system. Some of rail projects he has worked on and led include stochastic dynamic simulation of vehicle track interaction, evaluation of an air brake inspection technology based on wheel temperature, study on wheel/rail flange back contact and development of a rail data integration and analytics system.

Prior to his work at the NRC, Yan worked in japan at Nagoya University and Toyota Auto Body, in material damage theory, vehicle structure strength, and crash safety.

Yan holds a Ph.D. degree in Solid Mechanics from Southwest Jiatong University in China.
