Joe Kalousek

Biography: Dr. Kalousek started his railroad career with Canadian Pacific Rail. After four years with CP, he joined the National Research Council Centre for Surface Transportation Technology where he was Manager of the Rolling Contact Tribology. At the end of his career with the NRC, he became an international wheel/rail interface consultant.

Dr. Kalousek earned both M.Eng. and Ph.D. at McGill University. He has authored numerous publications, papers, and technical reports where he covered topics including wear, rolling contact fatigue, friction management, rail grinding, design of rail and wheel profiles, wheel/rail noise and analysis of corrugations, development of advanced rail and wheel materials, vehicle dynamics and other wheel/rail interface issues.

He is now happily retired grandfather of six.
