Biography: Daoxing Chen is a Senior Engineer Specialist - Rail Dynamics at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, where he worked on rail accident investigations since joining the TSBC in 2000. Over this period, Daoxing has performed LER data analysis, train dynamics simulation, rail system analysis, vehicle/track dynamics modeling and other types of analysis for more than 60 rail accident investigations. He has planned and designed the rail capability lab at the TSBC including LER downloading and analysis, train dynamics simulation, vehicle/track dynamics simulation and accident scenario animation.

A long-term researcher on train dynamics, vehicle/track dynamics and rail systems, Dr. Chen has also worked as:

• Associate Research Officer, National Research Council of Canada (NRC), where he worked on Instrumented Wheel-set measurement, test and consulting projects.
• Visiting Scientist at the Association of American Railroads, where he worked on the Heavy Axle Load (HAL) program and Track Panel Shift simulation.
• Visiting scholar, Technical University of Berlin, where he studied high-speed vehicle dynamics.
• Visitor, Swedish Railway, where he worked on the feasibility of operating tilting high-speed train X2000 on Chinese tracks.
• Research assistant, engineer, senior engineer at CARS, in China, where he led and conducted numerous research projects, tests, accident investigations and strategy consulting on heavy-haul and high-speed railways, and track safety and reliability.

Dr Chen holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in railway engineering and rail dynamics from the China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS), in China, and an M.Sc. in systems science from the University of Ottawa, in Canada.

He has won numerous awards and has Published more than 110 papers and project reports in journals and academic conference proceedings or as research and consulting reports.
