Biography

Antonio Cabrera

Antonio Cabrera, P.E.
MTA-New York City Transit

Biography: Antonio Cabrera is the Track Engineering Officer at MTA-New York City Transit, a position that he has held since 1998. He is responsible for all track design and track surveying in NYCT, and for the development and revision of track maintenance and construction standards, including standard specifications for track materials. He is also in charge of all Automated Track Inspections with NYCT’s four Track Geometry Cars, and of assuring the track quality assurance of all new track construction in NYCT. Additionally, he is also responsible for the performance of quadrennial Surveys of Tracks & Switches, collecting track and switch asset and condition data that is used to formulate 5-year Capital Track Reconstruction Programs.

Antonio started working with NYCT in 1984 as an Analyst in charge of their first Track Geometry Car, and was quickly promoted to Manager of Automated Inspections and to Assistant Director, Track Standards. Prior to joining NYCT, Antonio worked in the Transportation System Center of the USDOT in Cambridge, MA, as part of the professional staff of Dynatrend, an engineering consultant firm in the Boston area.

Antonio is currently a member and past Chairman of AREMA’s Committee 2, “Track Measuring Systems”. He is a member of ASCE, and a licensed Professional Engineering in the states of New York, Connecticut and the country of Spain. Antonio holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, and a MEng (Civil) Degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
