This presentation examines the design of two vehicles types, wheel design, the possibilities in terms of wheel/rail interaction and wear patterns. It will present results of modal analysis study of the wheels from the two vehicles and surface conditions, results of FEM modeling, and correlation to performance properties such as wayside noise. If results are available by June, the presentation will also examine the related rail wear patterns. The presentation would wrap up with commentary on long term plans to convert this data into trend analysis and asset management.
